Big news from BOMA! CEO and founder Kathleen Colson has been selected as a Rainer Arnhold Fellow. Each year, this prestigious fellowship is offered to 16-20 social entrepreneurs around the world who have promising solutions to the biggest problems facing developing nations. The two-year fellowship helps them to expand their program—in our case, the Rural Entrepreneur Access Project—through a design process that emphasizes real impact, big bang for the buck, lasting behavior change, easy replication and finding the right path to scale. The fellowship also offers mentoring, staff assistance and facilitated networking, and it kicks off with a weeklong retreat in California in early September. The timing couldn’t be better: With a multi-year grant from DFID, the UK aid agency, BOMA will be launching 1,338 businesses across the greater Marsabit District through March 2015. We’re also embarking on a strategic planning process to help BOMA chart a path to scale beyond Northern Kenya and across the arid lands of Africa. We are so proud of Kathleen!
