Mentor Reliever LIFT NK- Turkana

BOMA is currently seeking qualified candidates for mentor position for the newly awarded Livelihoods and Inclusion for Transformation (LIFT) Northern Kenya project. The Livelihoods and Inclusion for Transformation (LIFT) Northern Kenya project will implement a climate crisis-adapted “green” version of The BOMA Project’s proven poverty graduation model, the Rural Entrepreneur Access Project (REAP) to provide market-based pull by facilitating more competitive, profitable Green Enterprises for women, youth, and refugees within the forest ecosystems in Marsabit, Samburu and Turkana counties and in Kakuma and Kalobeyei Refugee Settlements over a period of 3 years. BOMA will be the Lead partner of the project and will collaborate with Danish Church Aid (DCA) and Smart Regional Consultants (SRC) in implementing the project.

 

  1. TASKS & RESPONSIBILITIES
  • Manage the LIFT Rural Entrepreneur Access Project (REAP), that will help participants start businesses to uplift their living standards and ensure environmental conservation.
  • Provide mentoring to the agreed number of small business enterprises under the REAP – LIFT Programme.
  • In a collaborative process with the community and BOMA Location Committees, target and identify eligible women for the REAP – LIFT Programme, based on BOMA’s criteria – (using the Participatory Wealth Ranking and Participatory Rural Appraisal Tools)
  • Meet with established Business Groups (BGs) as required, help them make decisions about their business and provide mentorship and guidance as needed.
  • Conduct/deliver business and savings skills trainings including financial management to the businesses in the designated locations and surrounding manyattas.
  • Train and mentor, the Business Groups, green entrepreneurship, climate change adaptation, climate-smart technologies.
  • Support the mentors to ensure entrepreneurs succeed in production, trade, and value addition based on the green enterprises.
  • Perform a minimum of agreed visits per week to the business groups and savings groups for which you are responsible.
  • Collect data and information for individuals, business group performance, participation of BG members in savings groups, savings group performance, participants living standards, participation in climate change adaptations, and other relevant information.
  • Upload quality data and information on groups performance using the BOMA taroworks system (information management technology) as required.
  • Report on the businesses and savings groups’ performances to the Field Officer.
  • Represent BOMA in the designated location, including as a representative for the organization in local development committees.

QUALIFICATIONS AND EXPERIENCE:

    • At least a Diploma in community development, social work or another related discipline.
    • At least two (2) years’ experience in similar work.
    • Proven experience in data collection and or mentorship is an added advantage.
    • Possess excellent interpersonal skills; candidates should be able to relate well to both the women with whom we work, and the BOMA Field Officer.
    • Be self-driven, and able to work with minimal staff supervision.
    • Must be a native of the respective location you are applying for with working knowledge of English, Swahili and the local language.
    • Strongly encouraged – Have a valid motorcycle license and experience on how to ride a motorcycle or (at least willingness to present a motorcycle license within the first 3 months of employment).

Office Assistant (Reliever)

The Office Assistant is responsible for providing day-to-day office administration and support to the Procurement and Administration Officer. The position requires a results and detail-oriented professional with sound understanding of office management processes and operations, including excellent people relations skills.

  1. Duties & Responsibilities:
    • Distributing staff monthly communication allowance and data bundles.
    • Assist in document distribution (internal and external).
    • Support in filing and archiving.
    • Manage food experience by staff and guests (food and beverages).
    • Run office errands; make dispatches and collections required for the office.
    • Support in maintaining and replenishing office inventory including anticipating any needed supplies.
    • Support logistical operations both for office functions/operations and fieldwork.
    • Support receiving of goods as required by the supervisor.
    • Manage the day-to-day running of the office including purchases of all consumables.
    • Manage the front office/reception including welcoming visitors and guests to make them feel hospitable.
    • Compile Nairobi staff lunch schedule for reimbursement monthly.
    • Follow all health and safety regulations.
    • Support the Office Cleaners.
    • Support the Nairobi office to ensure OSH compliance.
    • Perform other related duties as required by the supervisor.
  1. QUALIFICATIONS
    • Must have a Certificate/Diploma in administration related courses.
    • Certificate in computer application with work experience.
    • Good Oral/Written communication skills.
    • Problem-solving skills.

Kuza Jamii Mentor Reliever Kataboi- Turkana

Kuza Jamii will support the Government of Kenya to progressively assume responsibility for the national Economic Inclusion Programme in Garissa, Isiolo, Mandera, Marsabit, Samburu, Tana River, Turkana and Wajir. Our streamlined, County-adapted, gender-sensitive, and community-led model builds the capacity of village savings and loan associations and Ward-level producer cooperatives to coordinate service provision and market and financial linkages for the extreme poor, and in particular women and people living with disabilities, thereby offering a sustainable support platform after project end. We will reach 17,000 direct participants and 96,900 direct-indirect participants (household members) for a total of 113,900 total population reached, demonstrating exceptional value for money.

Office Assistant - Kakuma (Reposting)

BOMA is recognized for developing an innovative, gender-focused poverty graduation model for the extreme-poor women in the arid and semi-arid lands (ASALs), the Rural Entrepreneur Access Project (REAP). This long-term program offers a highly sequenced, layered and time bound set of interventions that help the poorest and most vulnerable women gain financial literacy, receive one to two years of mentoring in businesses and life skills, and through a conditional cash grant provided by BOMA, start small businesses to earn an income and establish savings groups, and build their resilience to shocks and strengthen social capital. Standard REAP/REAP for Women’s Economic Empowerment is BOMA’s flagship model and has tremendous potential to scale up across Kenya and beyond in all of ASAL countries in which BOMA is operating.

In the face of ever-increasing climate crises, BOMA has also developed a climate-oriented adaptation of its REAP model – called Green REAP – to support climate resilience, starting with people in the forested areas of Northern Kenya and Southern Ethiopia. Based on learning and early results, Green REAP has tremendous potential to scale up across Kenya and beyond in all of ASAL countries in which BOMA is operating.

    • Responsible for removing trash in office areas.
    • Responsible for cleaning and sanitizing of restrooms daily.
    • Responsible for cleaning of windows in conference room, management offices, etc.
